Sing With Understanding
Eph. 5:19ff — "Express your joy in singing among yourselves psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making music in your hearts for the ears of God!" (Phillips translation)
Many of you have expressed your enjoyment with last Wednesday’s Bible Class as we sang your favorite songs and then discussed the message we were "admonishing and encouraging" one another with as we sang. It was truly uplifting to me and I’m thankful it was to you also. You are a great singing congregation and I believe you sing with the spirit and the understanding. God Bless you for that Christian example.
I wonder if it could ever be possible for some to sing from a not so sincere heart? If we ever sang what we really meant, honestly, would some of our old favorites come out like this?
* I Surrender Some
* There Will Be Sprinkles of Blessings
* Fill My Spoon, Oh Lord
* Oh, How I Like Jesus
* He’s Quite a Bit to Me
* I love To Talk About Telling The Story
* Take My Life and Let Me Be
* It’s A Big Secret What God Can Do
* It’s Fair to Partly Cloudy In My Soul Today
* Onward, Christian Reserves
* Where He Leads Me, I Will Think About Following
* Just As I Pretended To Be
* When The Saints Go Sneaking In
I don’t believe any of us would want to sing those songs. We have matured to a higher spiritual level, haven’t we? Let’s live right from Monday to Saturday so we can sing right on Sunday? God Bless you in your spiritual journey.
