The Scriptures

"Every scripture inspired of God is...profitable. (II Timothy 3:16a).

The Bible is God's message to man. He did not put forth the effort to make it available just that it might be ignored. He gave it that man may know His will. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (II Timothy 3:16,17). This cannot be, however, unless we "give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine" (I Tim. 4:13). We must "study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (II Timothy 2:15).

O. Ray Burges expressed in a poem entitled "Using The Bible" these sentiments about the use, or non-use, of God's word in our lives.

"The Word of God is shorn of power
				When merely in a book;
It stays as only printed words
				Within dust-ridden book.
But when some honest, seeking heart
				Accepts its message grand,
It lives and glows and sheds abroad
				Its glory through the land."

I cannot understand why anyone would consider it a chore to spend time with God's word on a regular basis. Why would anyone consider it a waste of time to read and study such precious words? Perhaps it is as W. W. Ayer wrote: "The reason people are down on the Bible is that they're not up on the Bible." Read it often and seriously.

				  	THE BIBLE
				Supernatural in origin
				Divine in authorship
				Human in penmanship
				Infallible in authority
				Infinite in scope
				Universal in interest
				And personal in application.

Indeed, there is a big difference between books that men make and the Book the makes men.
